Who I Am
I am Kendall Quack, a midwestern illustrator and artist.
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. When I was young, my days were spent doodling and singing to chickadees and tadpoles in my backyard in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My father instilled in me at a young age a deep respect for nature that I carry with me to this day.
The smell of wood smoke. The creaking whine of the bare trees in winter. The deep, heavy hoot of the owl that lives in those woods. Blooming wildflowers beneath a warm, cradling sun. These are the things that inspire me most. From a cosmic level, understanding our place in the vastness of the universe, all the way down to the tiny pill bugs that roll around under my flower pots, I want to understand all of it. Sink my teeth in. Dig my hands into dirt and see what comes up.
Since the beginning of humanity, we have sought to connect to this world in some way, to find meaning even in the darkness. That search for meaning led to folktales and mythology, spirituality and ritual. These things guide my practice, as well as a deep connection to the divine feminine. While my primary medium is pen and ink, I dip my hands into natural dyeing, sewing, herbalism, and a handful of other nature based crafts that feel deeply rooted in care-taking and connection. I'm so excited to share all of those things with you.
If at any point you'd like to talk more about these sorts of things, offer advice or request some for yourself, begin a project together, or just say hello, please don't hesitate to send me an email. I'd love to hear from you.
